I recently blogged this, but wanted more to know this story. So here it is with excerpts from my blog added in.

Months ago while checking emails, I came across another pitch from Classmates.com. They were offering me to try out their Gold plan on a temporary basis cheaply. If you are unfamiliar with this website, it's mission is to reunite old friends, classmates, etc. Registration is free and visitors can browse and/or setup their own profile, but that's about all you can do. Unless you upgrade! You had to know it was coming. Personally, in the past, I never felt it was a bargain. Or necessary to pay for the upgrade for any duration since I am not a reunion planner. This time I decided, what the heck, I'd try it out for the short-term deal. A new way to amuse myself with the internet.

Now mind you, it has been a long time since high school for me. So figuring out who to search for was tough and mildly disappointing I soon found. It will help if I explain that I was born and raised (nearly 16 years) in Southern California and the remainder in the Pacific Northwest. Because of two moves practically back to back, I attended three school's throughout four years of high school. One school merely for several months.

Surprising how many last names one cannot remember after 30 years of cramming useless knowledge into our brains day after day. Each friends name that I was fortunate enough to remember wasn't registered. It almost seemed that in 2006, not one person I had known in school was online. Strange to me too! I tried thinking creatively, friends of friend's names? Maybe siblings or cousins? Hour upon hour searching and striking out alot.

Almost Reconnected

I will remember you my old friend from here upon the heights.

Takeaways
  • It is possible to reconnect with old friends but the outcome might not always be the one you expect.
  • After searching several times hour upon hour to find old classmates - I was finally contacted.
  • Only to find out one of my BFF's was dead!
Did You Know?
Classmates.com does provide a good option for finding old friends and schoolmates from one's past. Registration and searches are free but to contact anyone you must upgrade to the Gold plan.

Melody, I am sorry you lost your friend also. Even though it has been weeks since finding out I am still very sad. I was able to speak with Donna's mom though since I wrote this article. It was a wonderful experience. Thanks for reading again!

Nini, I had a similar experience finding out a classmate died before we were all 28 years old, leaving behind a child. Thanks for sharing your experience.
