A throw pillow cover is a perfect temporary way to decorate your home for Valentine's Day with what you currently have in your living space. This inexpensive design only costs a few dollars and looks fantastic when finished.

For this project, you will need:

- Several yards of red cloth fabric

- Existing throw pillow

- Fabric marking pen

- Fabric scissors

- Cardstock

- Five inch or larger heart shaped stencil

- Pencil

- Craft knife

- Self healing mat

- Warm iron and ironing board

- Ruler

- Straight pins

- Sewing machine with gold colored thread

- Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive

- Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in 18 KT Gold Plate

- Krylon Leafing Pen in Red Shimmer

- Newspaper or other drop cloth

Place several yards of red cloth fabric flat on your work area. With a ruler, measure the dimensions of your existing throw pillow. Mark a measurement on your fabric with a fabric marking pen that is two inches around bigger than the existing throw pillow. Cut out the two pieces of fabric with a pair of fabric scissors.

Set a sheet of cardstock flat on a self healing mat. In pencil, trace a five inch or larger heart shape onto the paper from the stencil. With a craft knife, cut out the heart shape. Spray the back of the cardstock with an even layer of Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive. Adhere the piece flat onto the front of one of the fabric pieces.

Cover your work area with newspaper or another drop cloth. Hold a can of Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in 18 KT Gold Plate eighteen to twenty four inches above the fabric. Spray the paint onto the exposed heart shape and dry for three to four hours. Outline the heart shape with a Krylon Leafing Pen in Red Shimmer. Dry overnight. Peel the cardstock off the fabric.

Iron each piece of fabric flat with a warm iron. Cool completely. Pin the two pieces of fabric together with straight pins one inch in. With a sewing machine and gold colored thread, sew around the sides and bottom of the pillow cover. Turn the cover inside out, exposing the heart design onto the outside. Stuff your existing throw pillow inside the cover. Stitch closed. Leave the outside edges of fabric unfinished for a whimsical look.
