Even though the idea of a monarchy has long been given up for modern democracies, there are still a lot of princes and princesses walking around. They think that they are entitled to whatever they please without any consequences. They live far above their means and borrow money to pay for their lifestyle. They are being very immature about their debts! Don't let yourself be a prince or a princess, instead take on a new mentality and be mature about your debts. Here are seven steps to financial success that you can take to give yourself a new mindset and help you better pay off some of that nasty debt!

The first thing that you need to do is admit that indeed you do have a problem. This might sound a little bit like you are in alcoholics anonymous, but it's essentially the same thing. Admit that you do have a problem, and this will stop you from making un-necessary purchases on your credit card and that you are ready to take responsibility for your spending problem.

Secondly, mess with yourself. Lock up your credit cards so that you can't use them, put them through the paper shredder, cut them up, do anything you can do to keep them out of your hands so that you are no longer tempted to use them! Put some money away in an emergency fund so that you do not have to go back into debt when an emergency arises.

Third, avoid the easy way out. There are a lot of debt consolidation programs and home equity loans which claim that they will solve your credit card problems, but they don't work. They only solve the symptom, not the actual problem which is over-spending. If you get one of these you'll keep borrowing on your credit card and be in an even worse mess!

Fourth, make a simple plan. Make a plan to start paying off your credit cards. Start with the highest interest rate card and just bust it! If you can't come up with a plan on your own, work with someone who is wise with money for assistance. Don't pay large financial consultation fees. Just talk with someone who has done well with money, such as a parent or a pastor.
