1. "Buy One, Get One Free"

Coupons are great for saving money at restaurants and fast food chains. Many people enjoy eating out. However, with the average entrée priced $10 - $16, dining out at a nice restaurant can quickly become expensive for a family of four. On the contrary, if you were to take advantage of discount coupons, you'll save 50% - 70% on the meal. The extra savings can open the door for additional meals away from home or dessert. Look for coupons in direct mail advertisements, newspapers, or purchase an Entertainment Book.

2. "Kids Eat Free Deals"

If you want to take your family to dinner without going broke, dine out on family nights. Several restaurants offer "free meals for kids," on specific days of the week. Typically, these deals are available during less busy hours, which mean you may have to schedule the family dinner for Tuesdays or Wednesdays between 4 - 6 P.M. To take advantage of such offers, there must be a paying adult for each free kid entrée. Therefore, if you have two children, be prepared to purchase two entrees at full price.

3. Skip the Entrée

Save money by skipping the entrée and requesting an appetizer as the meal. Many appetizers include large portions, which is enough is satisfy an adult. You can also stay within your budget by ordering soup and salad. If dining out for lunch, ask the waiter for a lunch portion meal. Many restaurants do not advertise smaller portion meals. However, if a restaurant honors your request, you'll receive a small discount on your bill.

4. Don't Order Alcohol

Alcohol beverages can quickly increase your total meal bill. The average alcoholic beverage costs $5.00. Thus, if you were to order two or three drinks each time you dine out, you'll spend an additional $20.00 for every meal. Resist the urge to order a drink and save money. Learn ways to be satisfied with soda, coffee, tea, or water.

5. Share an Entrée
