Publishing articles on Associated Content (AC) is easy and profitable. After all, it's one of the few sites on the web that actually pays for content. If you find yourself thinking, "Hey, I'd actually like to make this a part-time job," following are five tips to make that happen.

I've been submitting articles to AC since April 2006, and have submitted well over 100. I noticed that by doing the following, I consistently increased my income - without even realizing it.

1. Forums: Reading the advice offered in the forums has been invaluable. I've learned about other online writing gigs, picked up useful technology tips (eg, which key word analyzer to use), and have been turned on to websites I never even knew existed.

I've been a freelancer since 1993, and am pretty knowledgeable about freelancing in general. I do, after all, publish a blog on the topic (InkwellEditorial.blogspot.com). BUT, invariably, I stumble across some nugget in the forums that I find useful.

So, frequent the forums. Only one or two times a week can be a big help.

2. Write Regularly: One of my New Year's Resolutions was to pay down some debt. I targeted a few smaller bills that have been floating around and decided, "Hey, if I write x number of articles/day and contribute all of the income to that, I could have this paid off in no time."

Having a goal gets me in the habit - indeed, gives me the motivation - to sit down and write even when I don't want to. Instead of resolving to make x number of extra dollars a month, have a goal of what you want to do with the money -- and write regularly to achieve that. I write daily -- usually 3-6 articles.

This will make it so much easier to stay focused. You can always do without money for which you have no goal. But, if you have a goal in mind, you're much more likely to stay motivated.

This leads me to my next point: calculations.

3. Average Sums: As I've posted well over 100 articles to AC, I know how much I average on each article. So, I stress less about what I get for one particular article because I know that it all evens out.

Why You Should Respond to Comments: The more people respond to an article, the higher its ranking, the more popular it becomes, the more page views you get - and whammo - your clout level rises. This leads to increased offers from AC.

Crystal, on those rare occasions when I use a keyword analyzer, I use the one at this link: http://www.123promotion.co.uk/tools/keywordanalysis.php. I've found that focusing on key words doesn't work well for me -- it's too time-consuming. By the time I've optimized an article, I could have written two others. So, I worry less about the individual offers I receive; rather, I focus on producing a certain number. I've found that it all evens out. So, if you really want to maximize your income, my #1 piece of advice is figure out what you average per article and divide your target income by that number (after produce 20-25 articles, you can start to get an idea). Eg, if you want to make $200/month and you average $5/article, then you'd need to produce 40 articles a month. That's only 2/day (writing M-F). This is just my opinion. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. What keyword analyzer do you use? I think if I start checking this I may be able to increase my offers. I am a bit confused on my offers lately. I have a ten part scrapbook series four of which I got offers on, but three of the four were quite low. The only thing I could come up with is a keyword difference.

Thanks Kabell for your kind words. And, good luck to you as you begin to use AC, and in your real estate career. My sister is a realtor and I was one too, years ago. A hard profession, but a rewarding one if you stick with it long enough.
