Edmonton: Local Activities, Festivals and Tourist Attractions

Edmonton is the capital of the Canadian state of Alberta. The city is situated on the North Saskatchewan River in the central province area- a section with a series of the fruitful cultivable grounds on the meadows. Being the second major city in Alberta, it has 752. 412 inhabitants (2008), and is the center of Canada's sixth-largest census civil district, with a population of over 1 million citizens, making it the North-American northernmost capital with a civic population of more than one million citizens.

Situated at around 683 square kilometers (264 square miles), the Edmonton city covers a zone bigger than Philadelphia, Toronto, Montreal, and Chicago. Edmonton has one of the lowest North America proletariat densities-estimated at 9.4% of that in New York City. A citizen of Edmonton is identified as an Edmontonian.

The city is the second largest most renowned province capital of Canada (after Toronto) and is cultural, bureaucratic and tutorial center. Edmonton acts as a center of many huge festivals each year, hence from here is its local nickname- "The Festival City." Each summer, Downtown Edmonton's Churchill Square hosts countless festivals.

There are many important events. One of them is called "The Works Art & Design Festival", held between the late days of June and the beginning of July, showcasing Canadian and worldwide art and patterns from famous reputable performers in cooperation with rising and undergraduate artists.

The world-famous Edmonton International Street Performer's Festival is held in mid-July and presents travel uncover performers from all around the earth. The Edmonton major fiesta during the summer season is known as capital EX (in preceding times the days of Klondike or K-Days).
