When the Angels Sign Manny, Dodger Fans Will See Red & Wear It, Too!
The Manny Sweepstakes have begun, now that the Dodgers have been out-everything'd in the playoffs against the Phillies.
The big question isn't whether Frank McCourt will re-sign Dr. Dreadlocks.
He won't.
As some have suggested, McCourt will "court" Manny, but he won't woo him with enough dough, or the length of contract will be four years instead of the desired five or
six.
But something, anything remotely justifiable will stand in the way of Number 99 returning to Chavez Ravine. Merely a whisper about the wasted bucks and continuing financial payout to last year's no-show, Andruw Jones, will probably do the trick.
What team will win Manny over?
The Yankees always have deep pockets, and the Bronx could be a great launching pad for Manny's prolific hits, especially against former homeys, the Red Sox.
But New York isn't LA. Manny simply won't be worshipped there, even in a new house that HE could build.
LA Loves Manny, and that's why The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will make the perfect pitch for him.
Manny could become proprietor of both Mannywood and Mannyland. He could steal second without taking his foot off first.
And many of the True Blue fans will suddenly see red, and wear it, too.
They're skippered by Dodger winner, Mike Scoscia.
Angels owner Arte Moreno will make the Manny investment because it is good business, great P.R., and it definitively proclaims, "We're Number One in LA!"
Plus, it would justify whatever player goodbyes Mr. Moreno feels he must say to Vladimir Guerrero, Francisco Rodriguez, and others.
Don't worry about Manny leaving LA.
He has just started putting his name on the map!
