Having Beautiful Skin After SixtyDuring the busy years of our lives, raising children, building careers, most of do not think a lot about skin care. However, according to that old lady who lives in my mirror, skin gets older and must be nourished to keep it lovely.
After menopause the skin changes. It becomes drier and more thin, papery and fragile. What worked for skin care in your thirties won't work in your sixties. There is more to it than cosmetics, however.
My physician prescribes two Vitamin E capsules per day. I strongly recommend this to anyone over fifty. Also, hydration is vital. This is the time to drink those eight glasses of water a day. The skin needs a source of moisture as the body slowly fails to provide it for us. We need moisturized inside as well as out. It is also a good time to look at your diet. Appetite wanes with age and we must be sure we are providing the nutrients our body needs.
You may have to revamp your eating habits to cut out the 'empty' calories, and begin to rely on fruit and protein. It is easy to become dehydrated and poorly-nourished if you aren't careful. What we put in our bodies is just as important as what we put on it! Choose only the best and most healthy food you can.
Our skin is part of our whole, and we cannot just slather on some cream and let the rest go. Sleep is another component. Sleep is good for our bodies, inside and out. If you are up at night as I am, compensate by taking short naps through the day. You will feel refreshed and it will affect your energy and outlook.
Remember to do as Mother always said, "Wash your face." But I recommend that you find a skin cleanser that will be much gentler than soap. Many companies have towelets for the face, moistened with their particular cleanser. While it may seem frivolous to use these instead of good old lye soap and water, you will find they are worth the luxury.
