How to Sow Seeds in an Outdoor Vegetable Garden

When you're planting a vegetable garden, there can be a lot of different kinds of seeds. All of these seeds may have many different requirements. The first rule is to always check the seed packet when buying the seeds. There is always a lot of instruction on these packets that could be
very helpful in the planting process. By following these instructions, not only will your vegetable garden last longer, but at the same time you can save yourself plenty of time as well.

As a general rule of thumb, raised beds are good. You want to have plenty of compost as well and make sure your outdoor vegetable garden doesn't have any weeds in there. Take all of them out before you lay the compost on the ground. Make sure it is all even and smooth as well.

Depending on the season, you will be sowing your seeds either before or after the last frost. The easiest way to do it is with a common garden shovel. You want to make rows in the soil for certain things such as salad mix or even radishes. You can also make specific holes at specific depths and specific spacing's for the fruiting plants like tomatoes, zucchinis, or even peppers.

When you are done with the rows and the holes in the soil, you can then take your seeds and sprinkle them in the row or the holes. Make sure you check the seed packet for the spacing when doing this. Each packet may have different instructions and it is very important that you follow them exactly to make sure your vegetable garden is correctly planed.

As a generally rule of thumb, it is good to plant a seed at twice the depth that it is itself high. If you have a really small seed you may want to plant it at around a 1/8th of an inch. If you have a bigger seed you may be looking at one or even two inches deep. Once you put the seed in the ground you just lightly cover it up. Make sure you water them in good and make sure you keep them well watered throughout the season. You may want to water them at least once a week or so and remember to always keep your garden free of weeds. If you follow these simple steps you will have a beautiful vegetable garden in no time.
