How to Make a Vintage Seed Packet Window Valance
Vintage Craft Project
If you do not wan to ruin your original vintage seed packets, then simply take them to Kino's and have them photocopied in color. Use the copies in place of the originals.
You can also use new see packets form your summer garden and then rub some wood gel stain over them to age them into a vintage look.
To Make a Vintage Seed Packet Window Valance You Will Need:
Vintage Seeds Packets (Lots of them)
One 2X10 cut to fit your window
Screw in door stops (one for each hat)
Primer
Paint
Paint Brush Sand Paper
L Brackets Power Drill
Decoupage
Screws
Wood filler
Go ahead and cut your seed packet front off. Just slip your scissors inside of the Vintage Seed Packet and cut the front off so you have a flat piece of paper. You can also use the backs I you like how they look.
Now, after this, the first step is to measure how wide your individual window is. I like to make this Vintage Seed Packet Window valance stick out about 5 to 6 inches on either side, but that is up to you. You will also need two pieces of this same board cut to about 4 to 5 inches wide. These will be the sides of your valance.
Now, Screw in through the front ends of your long board and attach your two side pieces of the valance. I like to predrill these holes and then put in my screws so that the boards do not split.
Now, sand your entire wood valance lightly.
Paint on a coat of primer, like Kilz.
Let the primer dry, then paint on a coat of your vintage looking milk paint. I like to paint this valance because you will be able to see it behind your Vintage Seed Packets if you do not butt them up next to each other. This is a good time to introduce an accent color into your room. You could also paint this board the same color as your walls if you have any leftover wall paint.
Now, let that paint dry.

Takeaways
- Now, you can start decoupaging your Vintage Seed Packets onto the window valance.
- Brush the decoupage on the back of the seed packet and onto the window valance.
- Place them where ever you wish.
Did You Know?
I think it is best to cover ht entire window valance completely in vintage seed packets, but you can space them out in any pattern.
