Looking for a great hand made gift the kids can make for Mom this Mother's Day? This simple MOM platter is the perfect home made gift the kids can make that will be cherished forever.

You can make this MOM Mother's Day Platter craft for less than $20, probably around $10 depending on what craft materials you already have. This is a fun project for kids as well as adults.

To Make MOM Mother's Day Platter you will need:

Air Drying Clay (Like Active Clay)

Clay working tools (Or a tooth pick, pencil, paring knife...)

Acrylic Paints (Optional)

Clear Acrylic Spray Paint (Not Optional)

Embellishments, like beads, glass stones...(Optional)

Rolling pin

The first step is to cut off a piece of your air-drying clay. Roll it out to about1.2 inch thick. You can make this MOM Mother's Day Platter as big or small as you want. I think about 8 to 10 inches wide and about 14 inches tall for each letter is a very nice sized platter.

If you are going to fill this with cookies and give to Mom for Mother's Day, you may want to cut this size in half.

Now, use a toothpick to trace out your first M shape. The good thing about clay is that you can draw your M shape and if you do not like it, simply smooth it over with your finger. Once you have your M outline made, use a paring knife to cut the M out. Remove any of the excess clay and use it for the next step.

Now, repeat this same process making an O, then another M.

You can use water and your fingers to fasten the MOM together. Simply scratch some marks (scoring) in the side of each letter. Brush on a little water with your finger. Work the clay together.

Now, Break off some pieces of clay and roll them out into coils. They work best at about ¼ inch thick, but you can play around with that measurement. Use these coils to build up a base around the under edge of your MOM Mother's Day Platter.

This is also an important step to keep the platter sturdy a din one piece.

You can use a paintbrush or your finger to put water on the bottom of the letters and then lay your coils on top. Use you finger to smooth the clay into each other to make a finished MOM Mother's Day Platter. I like to make this footing about 1 to 2 inches tall, but again, that is optional.

Takeaways
  • You can use a paintbrush or your finger to put water on the bottom of the letters and then lay your coils on top.
  • Use you finger to smooth the clay into each other to make a finished MOM Mother's Day Platter.
  • I like to make this footing about 1 to 2 inches tall, but again, that is optional.
