A trusted name ~
The Toast-R-Oven is made by Black & Decker. Black & Decker has been a household name for more years than you can probably remember. They've always stood for quality and reliability, and I was encouraged to buy this product because I've had such good results with other Black & Decker products in the past.
Durability ~
The Black & Decker Toast-R-Oven is a solidly made product. My Toast-R-Oven has survived numerous moves (some with very rough handling), and more run-ins with incompetent roommates and friends than I'd like to admit. It stands up to being dropped occasionally, strongly jarred frequently, and (more than once) being exposed to freezing temperatures and then brought back inside. Although I'm sure Black & Decker doesn't recommend treating their products so harshly, the reality is that some of us really ask our appliances to put up with a lot. The Toast-R-Oven can take it, and continue to provide excellent service.
Versatility ~
The Black & Decker Toast-R-Oven can make toast, four slices of standard bread at a time. But it also bakes, broils, and reheats, just like a full-size oven would. The cooking chamber is big enough for loaf pans and small casserole pans, and it comes with a jelly-roll type cookie sheet and a broiling rack. For a household with just one or two people, this could be their only cooking tool, and it would be just as effective as a full-size oven, but with just a fraction of the electrical costs to operate it.
Portable ~
Black & Decker's Toast-R-Oven is compact, but not heavy. It has smooth edges, with nothing to poke into a car seat, if you want to take it along when you travel. If plugs into a standard electrical outlet, and doesn't heat up the surface below it very much when it's cooking. I've taken mine into hotel rooms without any complaints from the staff. Unlike a hot-plate, the Toast-R-Oven doesn't have a tendency to start fires, so it's much more welcome as a traveling companion.
