Alternative Easter Egg Hunt Treats

6
Are you looking for an alternative to filling your kids' Easter eggs with sugary treats? Here are alternatives that your children will enjoy...

You can have a traditional Easter egg hunt, but vary the surprises inside your plastic eggs to include some of these treats.

Food ~
Sugar-free candies have come a long way. Some of them are indistinguishable by taste from regular candy. Sugar-free gum is available in a variety of flavors, and frequently comes wrapped in packaging specially designed for the holidays. You can also fill the eggs with healthy non-candy snacks. A box of raisins or a handful of nuts will fit in the smaller eggs. If you're using the larger version, you can even fit in single-serve applesauce containers.

Stickers ~
Easter stickers are available as the season starts, and cheerful any-season stickers are always an option. Temporary holiday tattoos can be a cute Easter egg surprise, too. They apply with water, and wipe away with baby oil. Your child could enjoy temporary bunny whiskers for the day!

Gift certificates ~
General merchandise stores such as Wal-Mart, as well as genre-specific places such as Toys-R-Us, are now offering gift certificates and gift cards. Small-domination gift cards or certificates could be hidden inside your plastic eggs, and the child can then pick out a prize from your next shopping trip.

Crafts ~
Several small craft items will fit into a plastic Easter egg. Play-Dough comes packaged for this, as do mini crayons. Easter-themed foam stamps, beads, and other small craft supplies can be customized to your children's interests.

Toys ~
Mini Slinky Toys, yo-yos, bouncy balls, mini kaleidoscopes, and mini games all fit into plastic Easter eggs. Most of these come in Easter-themes patterns. If your children have an interest in dinosaurs or other animals, they might enjoy finding a plastic figurine inside their eggs. School aged children might like fun eraser shapes or clip-on backpack decorations.
