The rumors are true; Rage Against the Machine will be reuniting for one show at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Who is Rage Against the Machine?

Rage is made up of 4 individuals, Zack de la Rocha (vocals), Tom Morello (guitar), Brad Wilk (drums) and Tim Commerford (bass). Combined, they formed one of the most, if not the most influential hard rock bands of our time. The mix of funk, hard rock, and rap was the voice of a new generation oppressed.

Not to be confused with other run of the mill bands, Rage Against the Machine were revolutionaries. Aside from the left-wing messages and call for reform in their lyrics, all members of the band are social activists. They have participated in such as the protest they held against the use of censorship by the Parents Music Resource Center. This took place at a Lollapalooza appearance in 1993 in Philadelphia, where they stood on stage for 15 minutes naked with the letters PMRC painted on their chests and duct tape over their mouths. Other notable protests include their performances outside of the 2000 Democratic National Convention and a performance on Wall Street that forced the stock market to close early that day.

In 2000 the band departed due to as Zack de la Rocha said "I feel that it is now necessary to leave Rage because our decision-making process has completely failed. It is no longer meeting the aspirations of all four of us collectively as a band, and from my perspective, has undermined our artistic and political ideal. I am extremely proud of our work, both as activists and musicians, as well as indebted and grateful to every person who has expressed solidarity and shared this incredible experience with us."
