Enough is enough. That is how the majority of the United States feel about the war in Iraq. Public opinion has turned against this war, allowing for citizens of this great country to speak out against it without being labeled "unpatriotic." In the opinions of many our patriotic duty is to bring our honored soldiers home safely. There are many things that can be done to aid this cause. One simple way to do this is to donate to a non profit organization.

One of many non profit organizations promoting the end to this war is Military Families Speak Out. Their website can be found at http://www.mfso.org/. The group claims to have a membership of over three thousand military families and growing. Chapters have formed throughout the country in states such as Alaska, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, New York, Ohio, and many others. The organization is made up of those who have family serving in Iraq.

The group has been responsible for the organization of protests and peace rallies. Currently the organization is focusing their efforts on calling on congress to de-fund the war. The organization is currently running a postcard campaign. This campaign involves the downloading of postcards to be sent to Representatives in Congress and the Senate. Another option is to order printed copies of these postcards. Additional measures the group is taking in their effort to have the war de-funded is to send letters to our representatives and to let them know how they feel by phone.

This is an important issue to many. There are many people out there who are strongly against this war and who want our soldiers back. Many of these people do not know what they can do to help. Becoming involved with events sponsored by groups which share your common beleifs is one way. Participating in protests and marches, talking to others, and of course donating to a non profit organization. It is non profit organizations such as Military Families Speak Out that will play a vital role in ending this war. If you wish you can play a part in this important role.

Dear Laura: I just published an article on AC: Are Veterans getting Substandard Medical Care. Kudos to the author of this article about military families. Troops home now!

We need to withdraw from Iraq and take care of our returning soldiers. My husband came home injured & the VA does nothing for him. It's a sin.

While fully supporting our military service personnel around the globe, it is clear that many of our military do not want the action in Iraq to be sustained. MoveOn.org is launching an important new project with VoteVets.org that will use the power of internet video to help spread the truth about how veterans and military families feel about the war. Jamie, I am with you. There is a trained, professional military hierarchy that knows better than civilians and military families how this conflict needs to continue. I think it is better to let them make the best decisions for my husband and his fellow servicemembers, rather than a bunch of noisy protesters who don't think beyond their own borders.

Great information. I think true patriotic citizens support the soldiers over the war and rally to bring them home safely.

Incidentally, the alleged vandalism to war memorials was nothing more than a hoax spread by right wing websites. It was the kind of thing spread around to fire up people. It seems to have worked. A pity people feel they have to lie in order to promote their political agenda.

Refs to Gathering of Eagles -- is this a comment that was blocked by the writer? If so, why? Gathering of Eagles was a counterprotest in Washington on March 17 in which military supporters, families, and veterans gathered in Washington DC to protect war memorials from threatened vandalism by some of the anti-war protesters who were showing up, and also to show their strong support for our troops in the performance of their jobs. The showing was 3:1 more GoE folks than war protesters, according to the counts I've found, though the Gathering of Eagles was not well covered in the media and the protesters were.

'Gathering of Eagles'. I would be most interested to know what the soldiers themselves have to say about withdrawing at this time.

Fortunately, most military families (my husband - Navy, my brother - Afghanistan) recognize that if we leave now, all hell will break loose in the Middle East; a true third world war would be much, much worse than what we have now. I'm proud of the job my husband and brother are doing. And I want my brother to come home when he's darn good and ready, not a minute earlier. They have a job to do. They are professional warriors, not accountants, and I trust them to know more about war than I do. Let them do their jobs.

Very nicely written. I agree that our soldiers should be brought home safely. But until that happens I am all for helping to support our troops with adopting soldiers to write to and doing baby showers for the expectant mothers who are military wives.
