Online Texas Hold'em Poker Abbreviations

How Be in a Friendly and Enjoyable Game of Online Texas Hold'em Poker

If you play online poker you will see and use these abbreviations in the online chat box. Using a polite, appropriate response is good poker etiquette. If you see a well played hand then "NH" (nice hand) is always appreciated. You will probably get a
"TY" (thank you) in response. "YW" (you're welcome) is a little much in this sequence but some people have to be a little politer than needed. It always pays to be nice. However, some people just try their best to get you angry. If you pull for a straight draw and get it, someone who losses with three of a kind and believes you should have folded will try to flame you with a "FU" or "AH". If you get a person like this on your table, it is best to change tables.

It can be fun to play on-line poker. However, I have seen people try to make everyone else's life just a little more unpleasant. Generally you can report these nasty players to the poker room moderator's via an Email. If they see that a person is trouble maker, they can and do suspend them for a variable amount of time. Most online poker rooms generally allow you to report misconduct and will often take action on it.

Since you are playing for fun, please try to be polite to other players. Generally it is a teenager who tries to go out of their way to be nasty. Worse than that is an alpha male playing on the same table as their girlfriend or wife. There can be a major verbal sparring match when you get involved with someone like this. Even threats are not uncommon in this situation.

Usually, most people are playing to have fun and to be social. If you are polite to them, they will in turn be polite to you. Here are the most common abbreviations you will see:
