Huckabee Announces His Bid for Presidency

The 51 year old former Republican Governor of Arkansas, Michael Huckabee, has announced he is entering the race for the next President of the United States today in a "Meet the Press" conference. Huckabee stepped down as governor earlier this year. While Governor Huckabee tackled some important issues not only for the state of Arkansas but for his own personal growth, will it be enough to make you 'heart' him enough to make him the next President of the United States?

In 2005 TIME named him one of the five best governors in the United States, that is quite an accomplishment. When you take a closer look at his record serving it is highlighted by his signing of ARKids legislation, a health program for children of families who cannot afford private insurance and do not qualify for Medicaid. Huckabee also signed legislation to simplify the automobile registration process and to cut taxes, while raising the amount of money going to education. He paved the way for much needed road reconstruction and placed emphasis on restoring state parks. Huckabee rose to the need of others after Hurricane Katrina, telling state agencies "to take care of those human needs first and worry about the paperwork later". It was not just talk, Arkansas followed through assisting evacuees anyway they could.

Huckabee is most assuredly an imperfect human, like the rest of us, but he is not afraid to admit it. He faced a serious battle with his obesity and won. Huckabee has become an advocate for healthy living, not just in his books or words, but in his actions. Where other states take their Tobacco Settlement funds and use it for non-health related venues, as they are permiited to do, Huckabee decided to use it towards achieving better health for his constituents.

Huckabee said "One of the reasons that I'm running for president is because I think that America needs folks who understand what it is to start at the bottom of the ladder and climb their way to the top," "we've got a lot of people who are born on third base and think they've hit a triple." This statement is so true, honest and admittedly imperfect.
