I know many people like to get a group of friends together to play games, but we all run into the same issue at times. There are times when you are in the mood to play games, but just can't get together a group of friends to play. This is when you really have to appreciate games made by Kosmos, which concentrates on two-player games. They are usually strategy based games that play in a relatively short amount of time. Kahuna is a great example of this genre by Kosmos. It is a game that is quick to learn, but will take awhile to learn what strategy will work best.

Kahuna is a card game where you are trying to "claim" islands as yours. On the game board there are 12 islands, each with three to six bridges leading to the island. To claim the island you need to have a majority of the bridges connecting to that island. At the end of each round the person that owns the most islands will get points based on the round it is. In the first found the person with the most islands gets 1 point, at the end of the second round they get two points, at the end of last round (which is the third), the person with the most islands gets the score of their number of islands minus their opponent's number of islands. Then the scores from rounds one through three are totalled and a winner is declared.

Takeaways
  • Fun game which requires offensive and defensive strategies.
  • Always interesting to see how much a difference one bridge can make in regard to chain reactions.
  • Remember, the ability to play five cards at once is an important part of the strategy of the game.
Did You Know?
Control of islands will change many times not only during the game, but during each individual round. Remember, it's not a question of how many islands you capture during the round, it's how many you have at the end of it!
