When Commercials Cross the Line

Like most parents I try to monitor what my children watch. I look at movie rating before I allow my children to watch a movie. T.V shows I try to keep with family style shows. Things that the whole family can watch together and that I know my children will not be subjected to content that
is to mature for them. Shows that are not suitable for children are usually aired later during the night so that children are not subjected to those kinds of content. This makes monitoring my TV a little easier or so I had thought.

The problem with the TV has come about due to commercials. It seems that commercials have crossed the line. Adult themed commercials are now airing during the commercial breaks of family oriented TV shows. I for one do not want to answer the questions that children have after viewing one of these commercials. But it seems that these commercials are not waiting to air at night anymore. Now they air during the daytime and early evening hours when children will be watching TV with their parents. Why the TV stations are doing this is beyond me.

Intimate personal lubricant commercials are one of the commercials that I have a problem with. These commercials have produced an unlimited amount of questions from my young children. Questions that I have problems answering due to their age and the amount of information that I want them to have right now. Like this evening around 6 pm we seen one of these commercials on TV. Much to my luck tonight my children where not in the living room at the time this one had aired again. By my young children have seen it aired before and asked me all sorts of questions about what is was and what it was for. I turn bright red and pretended not to hear them when these questions come up because I am not sure how to answer their questions about personal lubricant.

I am bothered by these commercials myself. In our society, sex has become something casual and t.v. has picked up on it. Sex sells but they need to do it in a way where children are not being exposed too early. Thanks for the article.

I have not had to suffer the horrors of my kids asking what certains thing were at the stores but I have been asked by three boys ages 8, 6 and 5 what things were they seen on tv commericals. I for one really hate the herpes commercials the most.

How about advertising the meds for male enhancement? Much to my dismay, I watched a pre-teen daughter picking up a bottle of the warming liquid and personal lubricant advertised on television and asking her father to explain its uses. I quickly moved to another aisle! It is a problem - but as long as there is not a financially impactful public outcry - this will be a "growing" problem. Or is that a "groin" problem....sorry, I couldn't resist. Great topic - well presented. Might cause some discussion!
