The LSU Gymnastics Team pulled off an impressive win in Cancun, Mexico on January 2, 2008. Not only did they pull off a team win, but also claimed the All-Round with Tigers placing first, second and third.
The teams competing were 7th ranked LSU, 8th ranked Michigan, 19th ranked Boise State, and unranked North Carolina. The LSU Tigers won the meat with a final score of 194.900. Boise State followed with a team total of 193.700 upsetting Michigan who came in third with 192.700. North Carolina rounded out the quad with a final of 190.325.
Ashley Claire-Kearney, a senior, led the Tigers to a team victory and also took the All-Around title in the Cajun Classic with a score of 39.350. Ashley also took the All-Around title at the Cajun Classic last year. Junior Sabrina Franceschelli took second place, scoring 38.775 and Susan Jackson, also a junior claimed third place with 38.650.
Continuing her outstanding performances, Ashley Claire-Kearney turned in a record high score of 9.90 on vault, the highest score on the event posted for the Cajun Classic to date. I guess she is reserving that 10.0 for the home opener! The Tigers swept vault with Susan Jackson taking 2nd place with 9.875 and Staci Schwitkis coming in 3rd with 9.850.
Claire-Kearney earned the individual titles on vault, as well as on the bars where she shared the title with Taylor Jacob from Boise State with a tie of 9.875, and floor, a three way tie with Jordan Sexton and Tatjana Thuener-Rego from Michigan.
