time movie break! But then reality sets in and you realize that you are in St. Louis, Missouri, were there isn't that much a film community. What is an inspiring actor or actress to do when they find themselves in this particular predicament? Well the answer is quite simple - take advantage of the time you have and TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN!!!! So now that you've realized that you must get into some acting lessons, where do you go to find them? Who can you trust in this fickle and often misleading business? Well, I have found one of the best, if not the best, acting coaches in the St. Louis, Missouri greater metropolitan area - and the name of the studio is Carrie Houk Casting.

Yes, I said "Casting." You might be confused here, but let me shorten your confused state - Carrie Houk is a casting director and an acting coach. Talk about hitting two birds with one stone. In her studio you will learn from her, hands-on, and you will begin to master the skills necessary to succeed in this highly competitive indstury that I lovingly call - The Entertainment Business.

Once you have decided to take lessons from Carrie, you must then decide which ones you are wanting to take. There is a wide selection of extremely pivotal choices the aspiring or seasoned actor/actress can choose from. Throughout these choices there is one thing that they all have in common - the ability and guarantee to make you a better performer and allowing you the confidence to reach your potential.

According to HH Studio's website they are "committed to providing alternative educational opportunities in the St. Louis community in all facets of theatre and filmmaking, for both beginners and advanced students. Our faculty members are professionals who bring literally centuries of experience to our line-up of classes." Through their mission statement it is extremely clear that you (the actor) will become the best you could possibly be.

I just wanted to say that I have never claimed to be a great Improv instructor. That is something that Ed Reggi is amazing at and I would never be able to effectively teach Improv the way he does. My specialty is internalizing characters and acting the song. I have been teaching private lessons for almost 10 years now. I had a lot of success in Chicago with my students and even more here in St.Louis. I have had one student on Broadway, another receive several callbacks for an upcoming Broadway show and even more gain success in college auditions and local regional and professional theatres. The main thing is, that if you want to succeed in this business, private instruction can be VERY helpful. Do your research on the company or private instructor before you begin the lessons. Perhaps see if you can do a trial lesson to get a feel if it is a good fit. The most important thing is trust. Make sure that the you can trust the instructor and vice versa.

Reggi is no longer with COCA (and thank god because their prices were WAY TO HIGH for any actor to even walk in the door) and he is now offering classes all over St. Louis, LA and New York City. Check out his website www.edreggi.com to find out the best place to catch him teaching. Whatever you do, do not take classes over at COCA! I just finished taking some classes with Landon Shaw and trust me, he is no Ed Reggi!

It's true! I had taken several classes from Ed Reggi when I lived in St. Charles and I would say Mr. Reggi is one of the country's top acting teachers. (Yes, I said COUNTRY!) Run, don't walk to take his improvisational acting classes; it helped me land three roles on television, and even out here (in LA) they know his name. You can't go wrong with learning from a master like "Reggi" as they call him back home in St. Louis.

HH Studio closed as of 2006, so I recommend taking classes at one of the best acting schools in the St. Louis region: COCA, Center of Creative Arts. Ed Reggi is the Director of Theatre and Voice at COCA and since his tenure he has been able to secure some of the region's top professionals including: Joni Tackette, Bill Grivna, Landon Shaw, Doug Storm, Bill Rauch, Betsy and Jodi Capes from Capes Coaching in New York and many more. COCA is your best bet in St. Louis if you want to really learn the business!
