No More of Momma's Great Finger Licken Good, 'Deep Fried Chicken'!

Yonat Dhimron reported on January 29th, 2007 in the Raleigh News & Observer that Duke University has started a research project in a dozen black churches.

Sherman James, an epidemiologist, was quoted by Yonat as saying, "Church members know a lot more about how to move a congregation than we do at the
 university."

According to Yonat diabetes is one of the largest killers in North Carolina. He noted that 8.5 percent of the N.C. population has diabetes as contrasted with 13.3 percent of the black population.

Yonat stated that the goal of the test is to determine how the glucose levels of the church based programs compares to 300 African-Americans receiving care at Duke.

Dr. Elaine Hart-Brothers is quoted in the report as saying that they are trying to determine whether there is a link between economic status and improved health.
