Family Pet Napkin Holder Craft Project
Craft Project Kids Can Make as a Homemade Gift
This Family Pet Napkin Holder is made out of air drying clay and very durable. The kids can really get into this Family Pet craft project and display their artistic abilities. Be sure to lay out a plastic tarp or plastic tablecloth for the kids to work on. Clay can be a messy art product and kids know just how to get it everywhere!
To Make a Family Pet Napkin Holder Craft Project You Will Need:
Picture or Drawing or Your family pet
Poster board or sturdy thick paper
Pencil
Scissors
Air Drying Clay
Butter Knife (Plastic or Metal)
Tooth Picks, pencils, wooden skewers, or clay tools
Rollin pin
Acrylic Paint
Clear Acrylic Spray Paint
To start this Family Pet craft project first have the kids draw out their Family Pet on a piece of paper. They can cut this out with some scissors.
If they want they can trace a cat or dog shaped cookie cutter out onto the paper
Hold your cat or dog Shaped cookie cutter flat the paper. Have the kids trace the Family Pet cookie cutter loosely.
Next, cut the Family Pet shape out with scissors whether you drew it or traced it from a cookie cutter or stencil.
Break off a hunk of air drying clay and roll it out to a sheet of clay that is about1/2 inch thick. You can use a rolling pin to do this.
Lay the Family Pet cut out on the clay and trace around it with a toothpick. Repeat this process making two Family Pet Shapes. Cut the shape out with a paring knife or plastic butter knife. Next, cut out a rectangle that is as wide as the base as the Family Pet cut out and about 3 inches deep. This will be the base of the napkin hold that allows it to stand up.
The kids can carve details in to the two Family Pet shapes or even add details making three-dimensional pieces out of left over clay. This is when they can really customize this simple project to really look like the family pet.
It is a good idea to make sure the Family Pet clay pieces will be facing the same direction when they are standing up, but that is optional. The Family Pet napkin holder should be able to hold your napkins either way.
