This retro wire fruit pin is perfect for adding some extra storage and design to a small retro kitchen. You can screw the vintage wire fruit bin into the wall and fill it with anything from fruit to snacks for the kids. Make three of these vintage wire wall bins for your kitchen and hang them vertically in your small space! The visual impact will be as great as the additional storage it provides.

To Make Your own Vintage Wire Fruit Bins You Will Need:

15 - 25 Wire hangers for Each bin

Floral Wire

Wire Snips or Clippers

Pliers

Primer (optional)

Hammered Metal Spray Paint (optional)

The first step of this somewhat simple vintage wire fruit bin craft project is to make three squares.

I made all 3 the same size. My three pieces measured 10 inches on each side for the square. You can make this any size that fits your kitchen though.

Start by opening up all of your wire hangers with your pliers. You might as well do this all at once and get it over with for the entire project. Untwist the engaging part of the anger first. Then bend the triangle shape open. Flatten all of the hangers as smoothly as you can.

Make your squares out of one hanger each. You can only make the squares as big as your hanger is. If you want to go larger you can attach two hangers together by twisting their ends around each other.

Cut or snip any excess wire hanger off with your clippers. I find that a small handsaw can cut these wire hangers as well, but clippers are easier. Carefully use your pliers to twist the ends of the square forms together.

Start applying the outside of your vintage inspired wire fruit basket.

I like to go ahead and measure how tall I am going to make the vintage wall fruit bin and pre cut my wire hanger pieces down to size.

Your three squares will be the horizontal spaces. Start by lopping you first wire hanger around part of one of the top square. At the opposite end of the hanger loop it around the bottom square. In the middle of the length of hanger attach the final square form.

Takeaways
  • Use floral wire to wrap around the square and the straight piece of hanger to attach them together.
  • Your three squares will be the horizontal spaces.
  • Start by lopping you first wire hanger around part of one of the top square.
