For reasons that I cannot fathom, the films of one of the most singularly talented directors in Hollywood history seem to have disappeared off the map. I am speaking about the iconoclastic dancer-turned-choreographer-turned director Bob Fosse. Fortunately, all of Bob Fosse's films are available on Netflix so you can see for yourself the dazzling talents of this unique filmmaker. He wasn't prolific and he only had one bona fide blockbuster in Cabaret, but taken as a whole his canon is an impressive and versatile as any other American director in history.

  • Cabaret won 8 out of 10 nominations and was actually the favorite going in; by contrast, The Godfather only won 3 out of 11 and Nino Rota's nomination for Best Score was eventually withdrawn and declared ineligible.
  • Fosse's third directorial effort was a black and white biopic of comedian Lenny Bruce.
  • All That Jazz was accused by some of being a multi-million dollar ego trip, but it has held up as the last great Hollywood musical
