Nowadays, your kids want to sit in front of the TV in their free time. Although the television is a good time waster, your child needs other stimulation for their physical and mental growth. Kids need proper exercise that they get with outside play, and learning that will help them with their imaginations. One solution to help your child with summer boredom without using the TV is reading. Reading broadens your child's persecutive and can teach them basic moral values. While your kids are on summer break from school, it is a very good idea to have them read everyday so they don't get "rusty" on their reading skills.

Usually, local libraries have summer programs that promise prizes as incentives for kids who read during the summer break. Also, during the school year, Pizza Hut presents Book-it Coupons for a free personal one topping pizza for little readers who fulfill a task of reading a set amount of books. Reward your child for reading at home, too! One way is to reward then with new books. You can go to your local dollar store even and get a handful of books for only a few dollars. Get books about things that interest your child. If your child likes a certain super-hero, get a book on that character. If you have a teenager that loves shopping for clothes, get a book about fashion and deign of clothes. If you have a child that likes a certain movie, get the book of that movie. Most of the time the books are more interesting than the movies anyways.

Read together! Your child can be any age to benefit from you reading to them. Even a small child or a baby can benefit from this, too. Try to read everyday together. Find a comfortable place for your reading time that is not too distracting or over stimulating (like in a room where someone else is watching the television or on a computer). Be sure to pick books that strike your interest as well. This will make it easier to keep on reading everyday for the parent and child.
