When Tall Women Envy Even Taller Ladies

How often do tall women find they are jealous of taller women? And I don't mean on a basketball court, but in everyday life. A man I know who's married to a tall woman said his 5-11 wife is envious of taller women in the same room, as though this usurps her special position. I'm 5-8 and I
can relate to this because I always like being the tallest woman in the room. I like being the tallest woman in the gym, but sooner or later, a woman at least 5-10 appears.

And I'm jealous. But it's not that unusual for a 5-8 woman to wish to be taller. What about women 5-11 or 6-1 who don't like their position of tallest in the room to be robbed by an even taller women? Are you out there? Your comments to this article would be valued! Height is a never-ending fascinating topic of discussion.

When I was a kid, the teacher often had us line up according to height. Kids fought over who was taller and tried to stand at the tall end of the line, even though they were a little shorter than a few kids before them in the line. The teacher would make the one particular kid get in the correct position, and that kid was never happy about that, always with a sour pouty face.

I never saw this jockeying for position occur at the short end of the line. No kids ever bickered who was shorter. I never heard, "I'M shorter!" or, "I'M shorter than you, na-na-na-naaaahh-nahhhhhh!"

Instead, it was always, "I'M taller, not you!"

Do height-blessed women who wear flats realize what kind of message that wearing flats broadcasts? I just visited a site in which a 5-11 girl was concerned about dating a shorter guy. Someone responded saying that women were meant to be put on pedestals, and high heels were pedestals. She also added that when a height-blessed woman wears flats, people will notice this and draw interesting conclusions...

...as in, Gee, that woman lacks confidence.

Then someone posted a comment saying that when a height-gifted woman wears heels, "It just looks plain dumb."

I am 6'2 54 years old and am not jealous of taller women, when I rarely meet any. I grew up in California and as a teenager was made very aware of how differant I looked. People constantly overreacting to me and others making insulting comments. I think now they felt uncomfortable about who knows what. When I meet up with another tall woman, 6 ft. and over, I want to talk with them. And they are always attractive to me. There are many things i could share about my experiences with men, other shorter women, finding clothing that i want to wear etc. but does anyone really want to know?? Not all people are nasty with me. Being 6'2 in 7th grade definitely helped shape my outlook on life. I like Michelle Obama being taller than most. I watch her and can identify with her being tall.

I'm of average height, and I don't mind at all. It's easier buying clothes. I had a friend in high school with incredibly long legs, and back then she could only wear designer jeans because of her height. I got a kick out the scenerio of bickering over who's shorter. I think people should be happy with their height no matter how tall or how short they are. It certainly isn't going to change.
