Ok ladies, I know we've all gone through this: after three hours at Sephora you've finally picked an eyeshadow that you really think will look great. But once your home... trouble. Either the color is too bright, too dark or it just isn't your shade. Unfortunately, your stuck with the unuseable color but you don't have to make the same mistake again. There are a few tips of the trade to choosing the perfect color for your eyes. Some women like to use very intense bright colors on their eyes and while there really is no problem with that, bright colors do tend to be difficult to match with your skin tone and eye color. Typically colors that are more neutral will blend the best with your eyes and skin. Neutral colors also transfer the best from the palette to your eyes in regards to maintaining their true color. For example: you may have noticed that a neon pink eyeshadow looks one way on the palette but when you brush it on your eyes the color changes slightly. While this is normal and is affected by your skin tone, a more neutral color on your eyes would blend naturally with your skin tone as opposed to battling with it to maintain its intensity.
A few guidelines to consider when choosing an eyeshadow are as follows:
According to eHow.com women with blue eyes should choose colors such as "soft browns or tans, with sandy or pink undertones." In addition eHow.com advises women with green eyes to try " khaki and brown shades with yellow undertones." And lastly eHow.com tells women with brown or black eyes to wear "browns and charcoal shades."
Another note on choosing an eyeshadow to complement your eye color is that it's generally not a good idea wear an eyeshadow that exactly matches the color of your eyes. So for those of you with blue eyes, a blue shadow is not the best color for you to wear. The same goes for green with green, brown with brown and so on.
