Mike Rowe: The Most Underrated Man on TV

Without a shadow of a doubt, Mike Rowe is the most underrated and under appreciated man in the celebrity world. While Mike has a wealth of talent, most of which is found in his voice (he's done voice work for several television shows and was even a classical singer at one point), he can
be found weekly on the Discovery Channel having dry, wet, fresh, or old animal feces thrown in his face or simply in his general direction. To go through that every single day in different arenas and embrace every last minute of it (except when he can't breath) and be underrated is simply unbelievable.

Those familiar with Mike Rowe know that he hosts the Discovery Channel show Dirty Jobs, in which he profiles occupations that are either extremely dirty or extremely unsanitary. Every now and then there's a job that doesn't truly fit into either one, but is so labor intensive that it has to be included on the show. Some examples of dirty jobs include a septic tank cleaner, pigeon poop cleaner-upper, and pig farmer. He's also experienced the backbreaking work of a US Army Technician and went through a lifetime of labor during the Discovery Channel's annual shark week. The best thing about the show is Mike's sense of humor. No matter how bad he's messing up or how disgusting the job is, he always retains his sense of humor even though it sometimes comes at the expense of his camera man. Any other host and the show simply wouldn't be what it eventually came to be.

It's actually rather surprising that Mike Rowe, who used to sell diamonds on QVC and do commercials for Tylenol would be constantly knee-deep in murky water or feces. It's even more surprising that Rowe was actually a part of the Baltimore Opera; though during his Opera days he didn't have to worry about the contents of a fish bladder squirting into his mouth or manure being tossed in his mouth unexpectedly. Rowe also lends his voice to various other Discovery Channel productions such as American Hot Rod, Deadliest Catch and American Chopper (which has moved to TLC for its latest season).

Tina - not that you'll check this since your comment was back in March, but in your criticism to Rashawn about using correct verbiage, you make the same mistake that you're correcting by using the word "distracts" when you mean "detracts". That's what we call hypocrisy. Hopefully you you were motivated by a sense of irony, but more likely you just have no more skills than Rashawn. Better to not offer corrections when you can't follow your own advice.

Noticed this in a few of this producers articles. Rashawn, please remember to read thru your articles, instead of just spellchecking them. You have "breath", where you meant to say "breathe" in this article. You may not think it's important, but remember that everything that is wrong with the process of writing distracts from the content of what you write. Constructive criticism. And I fully agree with your content here!

If anyone should ever happen to chat w/ Mike. Please let him know that I'm "all about" him. Pretty funny that when I told my sister how cute I thought he was, she talked about how they laugh at him all the time and love his show. Go Mike!

It feels wrong that there isn't more comments posted about how great this man is. I plan on keeping w/ the site and looking for really dirty jobs for Mikey to "handle". :)

Mike Rowe is so incredibly sweet! Not to mention quite handsome and intelligent. I have yet to come up w/ a dirty enough job for him to visit San Diego, but I want to give thanks to him for making my day a happier one. Great smile Mike! Keep it up; you're keeping women blissful everywhere! I love you Mikey (hope you don't mind if I call you that)!
