St. Patrick's Day Craft - Decorative Switch Plate Cover

Decorate your light switch covers for the St. Patrick's Day with these cute covers. No electrical experience required! Here are easy instructions to make yours...

Supplies:
Clear Contact paper
Construction paper in holiday colors
Scissors
Pen or pencil
Screw driver
Optional: templates in holiday designs

Step 1 ~
You don't need to have any electrical knowledge for this project, but you do have to get the switch cover off. Use the screw driver to carefully remove the cover from your light switch.

Step 2 ~
You may need to wash your switch cover. They get grimy on the outside from being touched, and the back may be dusty or have construction leftovers slopped on it. Make sure that your switch cover is clean and dry, so that the Contact Paper will adhere properly later.

Step 3 ~
Lay your switch cover on the Contact Paper and trace around the outside edge, and inside the switch-opening too.

Step 4 ~
Now set your switch cover aside, and use your pen or pencil to mark a line about an inch beyond the rectangle that that you just traced. (This will be the overlap that turns under when you're finished.)

Step 5 ~
Cut on that outer marked rectangle. Then cut out the inner hole for the switch to go through later.

Step 6 ~
Use your scissors and construction paper (and templates if you like) to cut out St. Patrick's Day shapes and designs for your switch cover. Shamrocks, a rainbow leading to a pot of gold, or whatever your imagination gives you! Peel back the release paper on the Contact Paper and stick your cut-outs to it. Remember to put them 'good' side down, against the sticky side of the Contact Paper! Also, keep all your designs out of the one-inch border, since that part won't show later.

Step 7 ~
When you've got your design in place, lay the switch cover on top of it, lining it up with the border line. Wrap the border up and stick it to the inner side of the switch plate. (You can cut a notch out of each corner to make it wrap more smoothly.)

Step 8 ~
Now screw your switch place back in place, and your St. Patrick's Day switch plate is finished. When the season is over, just unscrew it and carefully un-peel the Contact Paper. You can store it to use again next year.
