The Hawthorn Suites is close to I-35 off Ben White so access to everything is fantastic. I had no reservations but that wasn't a problem at all. The front desk staff was very friendly and efficient. I really had no idea about their rooms, so I was quite pleased when I saw what $99 got me... But first the lobby: Not overly big but very cozy and warm. To be honest, I was tired after an 11-hour drive and didn't pay that much attention to the lobby. I do recall fresh cut flowers and a brochure rack, also a free coffee machine with Styrofoam cups for guests. They also had Free Continental Breakfast in the morning in the lobby.

Room access at the Hawthorn Suites is outside. This is set up like condos. My room was actually two floors! The gorgeous bedroom was in a loft upstairs, which opened on the one end to overlook the downstairs living room and kitchen. The Queen sized bed was soft and soooo comfy! Bedspread was new looking, as was the carpet. The room was completely spotless. The closet was plenty big with a luggage stand.

The main room has a comfortable couch, which faces a large brick fireplace. Very nice! The whole feel of the place was like a hunting lodge. The couch folded out if needed. The 25" TV was on a nice stand next to the fireplace and included basic cable plus HBO.

Off of the downstairs living room was another bedroom, which was open to the rest of the room, but there was a hanging divider, which could be pulled if need be. This had the same quality bed as upstairs.

The kitchen was a full kitchen complete with fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher, full sized coffee maker, Telephone w/ Dataport, Voicemail, and everything you would need to cook and eat a meal. Dishwashing soap was provided. They also provide an ironing board and iron in every room.

The bathroom could have been larger but served my purposes just fine. It was well appointed with soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and razors. This was a better grade of products than the Ramada. The shower was in the bath, which is fine with me. There is a small dressing counter in the bathroom itself, with a small hair dryer provided.

My sister lives in Austin and we have had a few bad hotel experiences when we have stayed there. We actually considered staying at Hawthorn Suites last time, but ended up somewhere else. It's nice to know that it's affordable and a decent place to stay as well!

OK, it's on my list for when I visit relatives. (If I live that long.) But Lori, don't you EVER stay put?
