Having accurate, honest and friendly listings will greatly help with your success at online auctions. The research you do on the products you're selling, the persuading sales pitch and the professionalism of your listings all work together to create a successful listing and a sale. But many of us forget about one very important component of the listing - the photograph!

The photograph of the item you are selling is one of the most critical parts of your Online Auction business. Whether you work with EBay, Yahoo or Amazon auctions sites, a good photograph will help sell your item. When you have a crisp, clear photo, the intricate details will show in the photo, giving the bidder the opportunity to actually see the condition and value of the item. This is especially important when selling collectables. You, the seller might not know the significance of a certain detail in a piece, but a serious collector would certainly know, and this will improve your chance of a sale. Also, having a clear photo will show up flaws that you might have missed when listing your item. A bidder might notice the flaws and alert you to the item's condition. This will give you the opportunity to revise the listing.

A good, clear photo will also give buyers the opinion that if you, the seller cares enough about putting a nice clear photo on your listing, then you will care about customer service after the sale! Think about when you click on an auction. When you see a fuzzy picture, or one in which the item for sale is a tiny dot in the picture, you probably would think that the seller is not very professional, and won't bother with the after sale service if he won't even bother to add a decent picture to his listing.

Clear photos can also help in your positive feedback vs. negative feedback. Since a clean photo shows every detail and flaw, the buyer knows that what he is getting is exactly what he thought he was getting. A good photo will bring positive feedback, while an unclear one says "buy at your own risk", and could give you negative feedback.
