Many people dream of making money from home by completing online surveys, but it can sometimes be difficult to find legitimate survey sites. Like any other work at home opportunity, the survey business does have its share of scam artists. However, there are a few tips you can use to learn how to spot these bad apples and find legitimate survey sites that provide an honest chance to earn the extra cash you need.

A poorly designed website is one of the first red flags to look for when searching for survey sites. Since the business community understands the importance of a professionally-designed website that is easy to use and navigate, a paid survey site that appears to have been created as part of the owner's nephew's high school project is a definite indication that the company is not very reliable. A legitimate business cares about the image it presents to potential customers.

The best survey sites will always have a privacy policy that explains how the company plans to use your e-mail address and other personal information. Since surveys are conducted as market research, you'll be asked to provide your age, occupation, geographical location, place of employment, and other demographic details. You don't want to do business with a company that will sell or distribute this information without your permission.

Legitimate survey sites will provide detailed information about their activities so you can make an informed decision about whether or not to participate. If the survey site doesn't have a list of answers to frequently asked questions or seems to offer only vague details about what is expected of participants, think twice before signing up.

Although some survey sites do charge money in exchange for a membership, a survey site that has a fee for participation should clearly explain what you can expect to receive in return for your investment. The survey site should also describe the company's refund policy or money back guarantee.

I have been taking surveys online for almost a year now and I have made thousands of dollars so far and counting. The key is to sign up for as many of the good ones as you can. The best ones are the sites that pay well and send surveys consistently. I have written a blog about this which includes links to some of the best paid survey sites I have found.
