"Bride Wars": A Movie Review

This weekend my daughter and I took some "girl time" and went to see the new film "Bride Wars." While it is by no means an outstanding movie, it is one that a lot of women will, nonetheless, enjoy.

The film centers on best friends Liv (played by Kate Hudson) and Emma (played by Anne Hathaway). The two have been inseparable since childhood. Together they planned and shared their dreams for future weddings to the loves of their lives. Because of a
wonderful childhood memory, both are convinced that they must be married in June at the Plaza in New York.

As the movie opens, the girls are sharing their frustrations over their individual boyfriends. They want to join the ranks of so many of their school friends who are already married. However, their respective partners aren't moving along quickly enough.

Eventually the girls get their proposals and at about the same time. So they begin making all of their wedding plans a reality. Together, they seek the services of the premiere wedding planner, Marion St. Clare (played by Candice Bergen). They both book their weddings at the plaza; one on June 6th and one on the 27th. At least that is what they think.

A mix-up in the wedding planner's office, however, schedules both of their weddings on the same day, at the same time. That, of course, means that they can't fulfill their plans to be in each other's important event.

That is where the trouble begins. Each girl wants the other to postpone her wedding. Neither wants to comply and eventually real fighting erupts, building into a crescendo of tactics that go way over the line.

Both of the former friends commit unforgivable actions against the other, in a supposed effort to get the other one to change her wedding date. In the end, however, they both give up and decide their lives and their weddings will have to go on without the other.

This type of film is perfectly suited to Kate Hudson's and Anne Hathaway's comedic styles. I admit, however, that I might have switched the parts had I been choosing the cast. The same could be said for their respective spouses to be.

Hudson's hair-do looks weird in the trailers
