I remember as a kid passing the old broken down jail on Main Street in Owego. It looked very daunting in the middle of the town, with little knick knack shops and hair salons around. Well, a while ago it was decided that this old jail would be created into a restaurant. They must be joking. A jail? As a restaurant? Something surely is wrong here!

After hearing about the switch from jail to eatery, I see in the local paper that there has been a posting of the menu. I look through it and everything looks pretty good. Some chicken, ribs and sandwiches. Right up my alley. Then I hear that the jail cells have been turned into places to eat, with tables and all. After hearing this I make it a commitment to try this place. It was way to intriguing to turn down.

After a while I made it down there with my girlfriend, and as soon as we walk in the bartender greats us. We both feel right at home and very welcome to be there. We are taken to our seats, and we have to walk into the jail cell to get to our table (don't worry, the cell doors have been taken off!). The tables look to be made of jail cell bars, and the table surface is a big plate of thick glass, which I'm sure was used in the jail also. The atmosphere in this establishment, although being an old jail, was surprisingly fun and welcoming. We ordered our food, which is right in my price range. The dinners are a little pricy, but the lunch sandwiches only reach $7.95. The food was served in a very timely manner, and was very warm and very, very good. As soon as the bill was paid and we left, I wanted to go back in. It was a great experience.
