Samantha Geimer Urges for End to Roman Polanski Case

Roman Polanski was best known as a famed director - and as Sharon Tate's husband - until 1977, when he was found to have raped a 13-year-old girl. As a result, Polanski fled the United States and has never come back, since he will be arrested and brought back up on those rape charges if he does. But as Polanski turns 75 years old, and questions over the events of 1977 are more wide spread than ever, the case will have to near its end sometime. The victim herself, Samantha Geimer, wants it to end now with Polanski to go free.

Samantha Geimer has said for some time that she wants Los Angeles prosecutors to drop charges against Polanski. She re-stated those pleas in a court filing that was released on Monday.

Geimer's brief was released at a time where the Polanski matter is heating up again in Los Angeles. Deputy District Attorney David Walgren filed a motion on the case, which described in graphic detail what Polanski had done to Geimer.

In her brief, Geimer wrote that the publication of those events, and the continued focus on them, is causing harm to her and her family. Geimer, a 45-year-old mother of three, called herself a victim of these continued actions.

Last week, Polanski's lawyers lost a bid to have the Los Angeles Superior Court removed from any further hearings on the case. It was ruled that there were no grounds for the court's disqualification, but evidence to the contrary has been piling up for the last year.

The growing effort to present Polanski as a persecuted victim of the justice system culminated in a documentary released last year. Wanted and Desired, a documentary which was showed in film festivals and on HBO last year, re-told the events in 1977 and 1978 surrounding Polanski's scandal, and the legal system's efforts to convict him.

The trial, the actions of judges, and the actions of the prosecution have made many convinced that Polanski was unfairly targeted for his celebrity, even though he was guilty. This in turn led to Polanski leaving the country, and having to make all of his subsequent movies in Europe.
