Learning to swim is a skill that just might save your life someday. It’s also a very enjoyable, healthy activity. Swimming works almost every body muscle, and is easier on the knees and joints than running. Since swimming is so accessible in the Seattle area, there are logically several places where you can learn. Here are a few good choices:

Seattle Parks & Recreation Fitness & Swimming Classes
Not only are the courses well taught by certified professionals, they are also fairly inexpensive, at about $5/class or less. Buying a season’s worth of classes will cut that price. There are also reduced rates available for low income families (about $2.50/class.) Swimming is taught in classes typically divided by age groups, so kids, adults, and seniors will find themselves grouped accordingly. Instructors know basic life support skills like first aid and CPR. Classes are located at different pools throughout the Seattle area, so check with the Parks and recreation website map to see what’s nearest to you, and to register yourself or your child for an upcoming class.

Aqua Dive Kids & Adults Swimming Lessons; 12706 33rd Ave NE, Seattle, WA, 98125
The Aqua Dive branch in Seattle will teach your kids to have fun in the water, but also to be comfortable with it. They will learn how to float on their backs, and different strokes as their skills are enhanced. Children are taught water safety measures by qualified instructors. This is a very safe learning environment for those without water experience, including adults. Lifeguards and certified staff are right on hand in case of emergency. Adults will learn to conquer their own fears, and that it’s never too late to learn how to swim. They will learn breathing techniques, floatation mechanisms, and different styles of swimming. Adults will be in classes with other adults, and kids with other kids, which makes for a more natural, easy learning environment. Individual private lessons are also available.
