Spring Fashion Trends 2009: Accessories

If You Don't Glow in the Dark Then You Are Doing it Wrong!

If you are watching the accessories trends for Spring 2009 you have noticed two things right away: Bright and Weird. The bright comes from a nod to the 1980s neon colors and the hot color this season is shocking neon pink. You will find this on everything from belts to purses, sweaters to shoes.

The weird comes from some designers having run out of ideas. One of those ideas is for peep toe boots. I mean please. It's cold and the whole point of boots is to keep your feet warm while making them look great.

Some accessories are great though and the best ones I listed here.

1- Purses

What woman doesn't need another purse (or ten)? Look for them to be bigger than ever, think the hobo on steroids and brighter. Basic black is not for show. Look for shocking pinks and vibrant reds. Look for odd mixes of colors, hot pink with lime green or neon yellow.

2- Chunky Jewelry

I mean really chunky and whimsical. Look for a nod to the ocean as large starfish shapes, dolphins and fish start showing up. Bigger is better this season so you can expect the cocktail rings to be larger and the faux stones to be huge. But we are absolutely look for whimsy as the designs are primarily in plastic and not expensive. It's fashion fun as well as fashion forward.

3-Bright Scarves

The scarf is hot hot hot this season. It's also very bright. Look for neon colors and bold geometric patterns to be all the rage. The materials range from silk to flannel and everything in between. Don't expect to pay a lot, either so you will be able to buy several.

4- Belts

Belts are back and they are bigger and brighter than ever before. The season is doing everything but going back to the 1980's and the double belt. Look for bright colors and 2-4in wide leather and lace to be the big sellers.

5-Boots

Of course I had to mention shoes. Every woman needs at least 5 new pairs and this is a great season for boots. The peep toe boots aside, the colors are more varied than ever and you can get them everywhere. Don't be afraid to match lime green boots with a hot pink dress, it's going to be the hot trend.
