Purchasing prints of fine art in limited editions creates value by limiting the number of reproductions that can be sold. You should try to purchase only prints where the reproductions are limited to 200 to 300 copies. You will know how many copies there are by looking on your piece. It should have something written on it such as the artist's signature along with something like 3/200. This means that your print is the 3^rd one created out of 200 that either are, or will be in production. The least amount of reproductions in print the more valuable your print.

Quality of technology used

The quality of the technology used to create the print is important too. If the machinery is cheap and of poor quality the output will be cheap too. If the software used to control color and print quality is cheap so goes the output. It is fine to ask the person you are purchasing your reproduction from questions about the technology used in creating the output. When reproducing a work of art, from oils to pastels, it can be tricky to get the colors just right. Using the best technology available will help.

Expertise of printer

By printer, I mean the person operating the technology and the printing machines being used to create the artist's reproductions. Make sure the person creating the prints has experience operating the machinery, manipulating colors, and knows what the original work looks like. The reproduction should look exactly like the original painting in terms of color
