Support Our Troops by Helping Their Families

There is more you can do for a soldier than just writing him or her letters and sending care packages to him or her. You can help to take care of his or her family while they are away fighting to protect our freedoms. There are some great organizations that you can join to help these
military families during their loved ones absence.

If you love babies then Operation Top Knot is for you. Operation Top Knot is made up from a group of the Soldiers Angels but their focus is on the babies being born while their Daddies are away. You can sew baby items for the virtual baby shower or you can purchase items. The package will be sent to the baby's Mother.

This is a wonderful way for everyone to get involved and help to ease the loneliness these military wives are feeling. Imagine trying to care for a little baby while worrying about your husband's well being while he is away at war. So these baby gifts are a true emotional uplift for these women. Don't worry if you don't want to join and be apart of all this you can still take part and help make a difference by making a donation on their site.

Top Knot does not forget about the Daddies either. They ship the soldier an "It's a Boy or It's a Girl bubblegum cigars to help him celebrate the birth of his child. Now that is a way to keep Daddy in the loop about his baby.

If you love pets and don't mind going that extra mile you can become a Guardian Angel to a Soldier's Pet. You can become a foster caregiver to a soldier's pet while that soldier is deployed overseas. You can also form a chapter in your area or just make a donation to this unique and generous organization.

Pets become a part of our families and they are loved just like a human member of the family. Can you imagine what it is like to have to give your beloved pet away because you could not find a temporary home for it? Can you imagine coming back from war to not have that love and companionship of your pet there? You can make a difference in the options that these service members have when it come to their pets by signing up to foster care for one.

Articles like this choke me up. My new son-in-law deploys this spring and my duaghter, with her soon-to-be-adopted son and infant daughter will be left to wait at least one year for his return. He is the backbone of that family and it will take an army of volunteers to fill his shoes while he is gone. Thank you for publishing this series.
