While MTV had it right with creating dating shows in which suitors could follow in a van and learn from other's dates their shows always missed the mark by failing to provide a catalyst for which true human drama could exist. This time they have found redemption through the old time and tested use of money, finally realizing that what works on the Real World does not always translate well for other shows. The idea is simple, five suitors vying for the attention of one jerk that is typically shallow and stupid (if it is a man) or controlling and emasculating (if it is a woman). You're paid for each minute you survive the date from hell, and if you last for what appears to be a relatively reasonable amount of time on your first date the individual asks you if you want to take the money or go on a second date with them. The only problem with the show is how participants quickly digress towards dating stereotypes; women who aren't really interested in the guy they're dating, and are more interested in competing with other women to arrive at a destination and men who will endure humiliation just to make a quick buck. Relatively nice people are always passed over because the one in question would rather see what else is out there and one girl was even dismissed over the fact that she couldn't swim in what amounted to a date that lasted a quick New York Minute. Or was it really because she was not willing to try. On that same show, a really nice girl that wasn't the most attractive was willing and accommodating, yet was dismissed after what seemed like forever because he felt that she wasn't aggressive enough. Yet in her own defense, she was already psyched out by what happened with a girl you could easily argue was more attractive than she was. Even when the shows are same sex the results are clear; one girl was dismissed because she wasn't open about her preferences with her parents in record time.
