This Vintage Cookie Jar lamp base is the perfect retro addition to any kitchen. You could also use this Vintage Cookie Jar lamp in a fun and retro home office or even in a kid's room.

You find great whimsical Vintage Cookie Jars at the flea market and online at ebay all the time. Vintage McCoy Cookie Jars would be perfect for this lamp base.

If you collect Vintage Cookie Jars, then you surely have one you can spare to make this lamp.

To Make a Lamp Out of a Vintage Cookie Jar You Will Need:

Vintage Cookie Jar (and Lid)

Power Drill

Glass or Ceramic Cutting Drill Bit

Lamp Kit

The first step is to completely clean out the inside of your empty Vintage Cookie Jar. They are often dirty when they have been traveling around from flea market to flea market.

I like to run some water into the Vintage Cookie Jar, put a few drops of bleach in, and then scrub it out. Rinse it out with clean water. Do not scrub the outer surface that is painted.

Let your empty Vintage Cookie Jar sit out and dry completely; everyone knows water electricity does not mix.

Now, take your power drill, with the glass drill bit, and drill a small hole in the back bottom of the Vintage Cookie Jar.

You want this hole to be right above the bottom edge of the Vintage Cookie Jar. This is where the electrical cord will be coming out of your Vintage Cookie Jar lamp. If you have this cord coming out form underneath your Vintage Cookie Jar your lamp will not be stable or sturdy.

Now, take your ceramic drill bit and drill a hole through the top of the lid. You can have a friend hold the lid still and slowly work your way through it. Do not apply too much pressure.

You can also us painter's tape or masking tap where you are drilling. This will keep your from chipping the Vintage Cookie Jar too much.

Install you lamp kit follow their instructions. Each lamp kit product will be different and it is best to use their specific instructions. Run your electrical cord out of the hole in the bottom of your Vintage Cookie Jar.

Add a light bulb and a lampshade and you are set!
