The Enchantress Chronicles: Second Chances-Chapter 2

7:31 am...

In their Ancient Literature class; Nick and Gabe were sitting across from each other as their teacher was tallying off the students' tardy record when Nick got the feeling to look behind him. He turned his head around and in the second to last seat in Gabe's row; his eyes met with D.W's eyes. She was a pretty girl, a gorgeous girl in fact. Her long black-streaked blonde hair was in a messy chignon and her ears each had four piercings in them. Nick smiled at her and he was going to wave until the teacher said, "Gabriel Angelier, you have...this is the first time that you've been in this class in this entire trimester. It's nice to meet you."

Gabe smiled widely and replied, "Thank you. I mean, I don't even know what to say. I'm so honored. The first day that I come to this class and...oh, wow!"

The entire class started to laugh and when Nick looked at D.W again; she smiled at him with her eyebrow raised. He could've sworn that he knew someone who smiled the exact same way, but he couldn't put his finger on it. He smiled back at her, though and went back to what he was doing. The teacher looked at his form again, shaking his head, and then; he exclaimed, "Nicholas Lockheart, he's your friend and you've made it to class. What's your excuse for showing up when he hasn't? Do you two have a pact going or something?"

The entire class turned their eyes on Nick and for a moment; he was speechless. Everyone's eyes were almost looking through him until finally; he said, "I'm not his keeper. I mean, he can do whatever he wants. Nobody asks you what you do in your spare time, even though we all know. So, don't ask me what Gabe does in his spare time. As a matter of fact, he's sitting right next to me. Why don't you ask him why he never shows up? I know that he's not the only one, either. There are a lot of students that would rather risk getting kicked out than coming to this class. I'm one of them, but I have no choice."
