About 8 years ago when I was in the hospital having my 6th child a nurse gave me a bottle of Herbal Essence shampoo. It made my hair look so fabulous, it became my new brand. This past year they stopped making my shampoo and introduced a new line of products. I go to their website thinking I can find a new type that is similar to the one they discontinued only to be inundated with childish questions more suited for very young girls.

They replaced it with "emo-trendy" combinations in difficult to handle, overly stylized bottles. I bought 2 of these to try them and both times the trendy caps were leaking into our groceries despite being "sealed". These are some of the questions they ask to get you the product like your old one...

Take the test.

I am..."the girl next door" "a diva baby". Now I am thinking.. What the hell does this have to do with CLEAN HAIR?
Questions about boyfriends, singing in the shower and all sorts of other redundant questions as if that had anything to do with my hair getting clean.

Not only were the questions degrading to a person who is earnestly looking to replace their beloved and discontinued product, but the new products simply do not work as effectively as their predecessors. I used several of the new versions trying to figure out which would be similar to my old one. All of them were simply inadequate.

I snapped.

I wrote them an email telling them a 14-16 year old can barely afford to pay for their own movie much less clothes and shampoo and to target that age group with their campaign is an insult to the adults who have been buying the products for almost a decade. It really made me upset they would disregard their loyal older customers to put themselves in a more youthful marketing group. I don't mind them targeting my daughter as a potential customer, but I do have a problem when they completely ignore the rest of us.

This was their reply:

"It was very thoughtful of you to share your opinions about our Herbal Essences website and new collections.

I wrote to them also, because I liked their Fruit Fushions shampoo and conditioner. I use to like the regular but I used it a lot during my first pregnancy to the point of it literally making me sick, now days I can't stand the smell. And it's like that with many shampoos and conditioners. That's why I did like their Fruit Fushions. I was able to handle he smell. I really can't stand the new line. It stinks for one thing...lol! So, I thought that I would write them as well one day and the reply that I got back was that those products weren't doing as well and that's why they changed. Well, apparently it did at one time until they changed it. I have looked on ebay, and they were selling the conditioners but no shampoo. I do know that the stores around here to sell the pink regular Herbal Essences. For all hair types. But like I said, I made myself sick with it....lol! Now I have found a new shampoo that I love..........Loreal Pearl Protein Complex Vive Pro....for med to

I agree with you. I am having the exact same problem, I actually came across this when trying to find out if I could purchase my old conditioners. I have tried a new one of theirs as well. It appears all the companies are going down the same route of trying to create multiple new shampoos and conditioners, non of them living up to the quality of the original product.

Yeah this product review was a silly look at what companies will do to make their products trendy. I tried almost every type of the newer versions and found not one that worked good enough to buy again. But then again I did find Pantene, so in a way it helped me find something better. I have very long hair so changing shampoo is big deal. I loved the older covergirl products too, took me forever to figure out what my old version was now being packaged as:P

ugh, I hate when they 'change' the products. They do this a lot with covergirl cosmetics. The old product is always beter. These companies get you hooked to a certain product then a few years later call it a 'new and improved version' however we all know new and improved meas, 'cheap for us to make, and crap for you' ENJOY. LOL. Loved the review.
