Gourmet Coffee and Office etiquette...what's up with the Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks cups wherever you go? Don't get me wrong, I love my coffee more than the next guy/gal, but why has it become 'OK' to walk into every meeting, or classroom, or even to work in the morning or after lunch and have that Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks beverage in your hand? This phenomenon has become commonplace in our society today. It is now considered no big deal to cart these cups holding walking billboards everywhere we go. Some Kids are now associating these beverages from these two establishments with their parents. I recently saw on the bulletin board in school when kids were asked to draw their family members. There were Dunkin Donut cups in the hands of their mothers or fathers in many of the picture these five year olds drew of their parents. Next time you stand there with a Dunkin Donuts drink or Starbucks drink waiting for a meeting to start in the office conference room or anywhere there you are with others around you. Pay attention to the conversation starters...I bet there will be someone asking what you are drinking, "is that the new white hot chocolate" or "is that French vanilla or hazelnut coffee, it smells so good"? Then there will be those who will state their claim on why they have to have Dunkin Donuts coffee and nothing else, or those who hate Dunkin Donuts coffee and like only Starbuck, and vise versa.

It's as if these two multi million dollar companies gave these drinks out for free, in exchange for the free advertising...Not! So why are we so willing to pay a premium for designer coffee and give them free advertising as well? Meanwhile, we have allowed ourselves to be brainwashed in thinking these coffees in the pink and white cups or the green and white cups are worth every cent we spend on them plus the free endorsements we subconsciously give them.

Takeaways
  • What message are we sending with that cup of Joe?
  • Do we really need the LARGE?
  • Ever think that it's all in the cup and not the Joe?
Did You Know?
Buying that drive thru coffee just once a day takes almost $800 out of our pockets each year. Is it necessary to always show up with that Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks coffee in your hands? Have we become addicts?

Sure, you'd save a lot. And there'd be less waste. And maybe people don't need so much coffee all day long. But here's a thought...I used to work at a caribou. It's like a Starbucks and far more popular in the midwest. People would come in and get their large coffee, which really isn't that much coffee. It's 24 oz which is considered, two cups of coffee. Not HORRIBLY unusual. Then, many would keep their cup with them and refill it throughout the day. Isn't it possible that some of those people are refilling their cups? Maybe they're actually being environmentally conscious by reusing the same cup all day. They may even be refilling or warming what they have with free cafeteria coffee. They may not even refill it with coffee! Often people opt for a lighter tea in the afternoon.
