Guide to Southern California Under Age Music Venues

For those in the under 21 crowd, there are a number of 21 and under music venues and clubs in Southern California to choose from. In fact, many of these places (despite the fact that they may not serve alcohol), offer some of the best acts in the region.

In fact, many of these 21 and under clubs are such great entertainment hot spots that you can almost forget the fact that they do not serve alcohol. These places usually have the best bands - either semi mainstream or underground. Plus, many of these venues give up-and-comers a chance to perform and audiences a chance to hear something new.

In Los Angeles County, there are of course, a large number of underage clubs. The Allen Theater in South Gate (which is around south L.A. County) features many punk and metal bands. A lot of the bands that play at the Allen Theater are mainly underground or local garage types of bands.

For those who are really into all forms of punk music, a lot of local bands play at The Smell in Los Angeles. Admission is fairly priced and usually a good deal if you like going to shows and have a few extra dollars to spend.

The Glass House in Pomona, on the other hand, can sometimes be a bit pricey when it comes to admission. This is because The Glass House sometimes has bigger name bands than some underage clubs. Past bands have included Pretty Girls Make Graves and Glassjaw - just to name only a few (though there are tons of others).

Most people say the atmosphere of The Glass House is cool since it is a smaller space and makes the audience feel closer to the band when it plays.

For a more artsy vibe, Koo's Art Center in Long Beach serves up many avant garde, experimental types of bands.

Outside of L.A. County, serving more of the valley population (although people from out of the area are just as likely to be frequenting this place), is the Cobalt Café. The Cobalt is located in Canoga Park and is relatively small (compared to other venues). Ticket prices are usually under $10 and the venue is shaped very similar to a bowling alley.

It has a pretty laid back vibe and a lot of local talent plays there often (such as OneWordSolution, Kill Radio or Angel City Outcasts).
