Marriage and the Seven Year Itch

I have heard about the seven year Itch practically all of my life. In-fact I know of many couples who opted for a divorce for reasons that just didn't seem right. I didn't want to be amongst this group of people who where filing divorces before they even reached
there ten year mark. I wanted my marriage to last.

I started asking around to figure out why most couples turned to divorce instead of trying to work things out. What I found in my search was that most people blamed the other former spouse for their marriage going sour. I guess that this is true for almost anything, it is always easier to place blame on someone else rather than fess up and blame yourself.

Most divorcee's who had children tried to work their marriage out for the sake of the children but ultimately ended it. Some of these people try to remain friends or at least get along with each other while they are in the presence of their children. Sometimes for them, remaining friends seemed to be no longer an option when the other person got a new significant other. Usually when this happened either the new person or the old spouse would become jealous and they just couldn't deal with it. This is not to say for them all, some have been able to put their differences behind them.

Money trouble was one of the biggest concerns in most peoples marriage. When their seemed as though there just wasn't enough money, they would become stressed out and start arguing. I know that money isn't everything, but it helps. When you become stressed and start arguing, sometimes you say more or do things that you did not intend to do. Most of the money problems came from unexpected events in their life and it put them under stress. Sometimes when a person is upset or stressed out they end up becoming angry with the people that are the closest to them, usually the spouse.

My husband and I have been together for a total of almost 9 years and married for almost 3. We did most of our fighting before we got married and it seems like since we have been married we get along so much better and are happier. I know most people start their fighting after marriage and it ends up in a nasty divorce. I don't ever want this to happen with us and we both do our part to keep our marriage strong and I hope we can continue to do so for the rest of our lives. I don't think my husband will ever cheat on me because he went through this too much with his ex-girlfriend and he said he won't do it to me. I don't believe in infidelity and don't understand why people cheat. I think if you want to be with someone else then break up with the person you are with instead of cheating on them. My husband feels the same way. I really enjoy your articles and I will continue to read and rate them. :)

I have heard that many who serve as Pastors and and those in the correctional field seem to suffer from burn-out around their seventh year of service too. Interesting that they call it the seven year itch. I enjoyed your article.
