Cruising the Nile River
Things Your Travel Agent Didn't Tell You
Cruising the Nile River in Egypt is the trip of a lifetime. If cruising the Nile conjurs up visions of Cleopatra stretched out luxuriously on cushions or a bunch of Agatha Christie eccentrics dressed in white linen on the deck, think again. Nile cruises are more popular than ever and crusing the Nile is big business.Egypt has made major investments in her tourist infrastructure. In the twenty years since my first trip to Egypt, tour bus parking lots, walkways and shopping experiences have been built at all the major sights like the Pyramids and Sphinx at the Giza Plateau, The Valley of the King's and the Valley of the Queen's. It is far easier now to see the ancient wonders of Egypt than ever before.
If you are one of the thousands of people expected to go cruising the Nile River this year, here are some helpful hints and explanations your travel agent probably won't tell you.
You will not be alone on your cruise
Cruising the Nile has become for many "the" way to travel between Luxor and Aswan, this four day stretch is the most popular cruise segment on the Nile. The Temples of Karnak and Luxor, the Valley of the King's, the Valley of the Queen's, Kom Obu, and Edfu, these ancient treasures draw thousands and the Nile Cruise ships deliver.
Cruising the Nile aboard our ship, there was often not enough room to tie up along the banks of the Nile so we often tied up alongside other ships cruising the Nile. I share this with you because of two experiences we had when we were cruising the Nile. One afternoon, at berth during the heat of the day, we laid down for a nap in our cabin, the gentle rocking of the Nile did the trick and before we knew it we were both sound asleep. Imagine our surprise when we woke up to find another Nile cruise ship had tied up along side of ours and the all the passengers on the new cruise ship's deck had a perfect view of us asleep on our bed.
