Six months before the final book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is due to be released in stores, pre-sales have already placed it at number one. This last installment in J.K. Rowlings seven-book series will be release on the 21st of July, 2007.

Despite the books popularity and success amongst the public, officials continue to place the Harry Potter series on the annual list of most-banned books. Upon discovering this news, Rowling responded, "As this puts me in the company of Harper Lee, Mark Twain, J. D. Salinger, William Golding, John Steinbeck and other writers I revere, I have always taken my annual inclusion on the list as a great honour."

Receiving a great following with the story in book form, Rowling sold the rights of the first four books to Warner Brothers. Collectively, the Harry Potter films have brought in more money than any other story series in history, with an astonishing $3.5 billion in revenue.

This number was achieved through only four of the films. As stated before, the entire series includes seven separate stories. The next film is due to be released in theaters on the 13th of July, 2007. The sixth movie is set to be released in late 2008. All of this has been happening while Rowling has continually been working on the seventh book. The title of this final installment in the Harry Potter series was publicly released on the 21st of December, 2006.

The first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, was released to Great Britain in July of 1997 under the title Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. This original title was then changed for its American release in September of 2008. The current collection of six books has sold more than three hundred million copies worldwide.

When pre-sales for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows began on Friday, the 2nd of February, it quickly became the number one seller for both Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
