When it comes to the study of psychological conditions probably no American Presidents have presented a more challenging opportunity than Abraham Lincoln and Richard Nixon. It is now widely accepted that Abe Lincoln was suffering from clinical depression of one sort or another and Richard Nixon offers up a classic study of the paranoid personality. It is perhaps a testament to the intelligence of both men that they are seen as very complex personalities whose motivations are often impenetrable. And yet it seems quite safe to say that in another fifty years there will be more books that attempt to plumb the psychological depths of George W. Bush than all the books that do the same about Lincoln and Nixon combined. Oddly, of course, there exist very few who would place Bush's intelligence in the sphere dominated by Lincoln and Nixon. So what gives? Is Bush really a complex psychological creature or not?

I have a theory. I can't prove it, of course, but then if I could prove it it would be a fact and not a theory. As the saying goes. I want to present my case that George W. Bush is, in fact, not psychologically complex, but that all his bizarre actions can be attributed to a single incident far in his past. After studying Bush's actions and doing some research, I am convinced that it is within the realm of possibility that the President is suffering from the effects of general paresis. General paresis is a degenerative mental disorder that results from the effects of contracting syphilis. The incubation period for general paresis is much longer than the other effects of syphilis; it can take as long as thirty years.

This article is proof positive that Liberalism is a mental disorder. You have not presented one fact to make your point. Your other idiotic ideas about the war on terror are incorrect. I feel sorry for you. President Bush has been the recipient of excellent medical care all of his life. His main problem is that he has to contend with deranged liberal maniacs like you who are trying to prevent him from defending this country from fanatical savages from the stone age who want to destroy western civilization. Please see a psychiatrist. One of the characteristics of the mental disorder of Liberalism is that Liberals are usually themselves guilty of whatever they accuse Conservatives of. You ought to be ashamed.

Timothy, you are too funny! While you may say syphilis, I think it is possible that it may simply be gas. Thanks for the article.

You know, the symptoms are sure there...it's too bad Bill Frist is out of the limelight, he could do a quick diagnosis for us...

Timothy, I think you may have hit the nail on the head or the head on the nail (As Bush would probably say) Bush will go down in our history as our Underachieving President. Also, I'm with Kirsten I've seen that Daily Show espisode. Someone possibly Cheney, is really Bush's puppet master. Great article. Bye

Aside from my general dislike of Bush and his International policies, this was funny and also maybe close to true. Have you ever seen The Daily Show episode where Jon Stewart shows clips of Bush when he was Governor of Texas and Bush now as President? It was wacky. As governor, he spoke commandingly and with charisma. It seemed like he knew what he was saying and it came out powerfully (whether I disagreed with what he was saying or not). Then the President clip showed him how he is today; sort of all over the place without a working knowledge of the English language. lol. Weird. If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would say someone was drugging that guy and running the country by puppeting him.
